How to get your wedding licence in Puerto Rico

Do you know that the state requires you to do in order to get married? I talked to the office off registration and here is what they told me.

1.
  • You must go to the "Registro Demografico del departamento de salud'.
closest to you, where you will be given form RD12 (marriege licence)
  • There you will be told that you have to get lboratory tes "V.D.R.L" befor going to your doctor. Remember that the laboratory tests are only valid for 10 days so you will have to do this in the 2 weeks before the wedding.
.A new law now requires that you get checked for herpees and gonarrea.
  • If one of the couple gives a positive result , the infected party must go to his or her doctor and get a note saying that the infection is under medical atention .
2. You should present the results to the Doctor that will sign the licence. Once the docto signs the licence you have ten days to get married.
3. When you hava all of the medical papers don you must go backto to the office "del Registro Demográfico del municipio" .Each party needs to present identificación with foto (licece or passporte) and each signs the part "E" of the form RD-12. the licence requires a seal it will cost $20.00 it serves to authenticate the document alonw with the signature of the registrator.
4. Later the registrador will give you 3 documents
- form for the mariege licence
- Medical Certification Seal (Results of laboratory tests signed)
- Certificato of Matrimony (form RD-75) Blanc.
5.
